What Does It Cost?

Application Fee

There is a $20 non-refundable application fee when you apply. This is a one-time charge for the admissions application and is not covered by GA Futures funding.

Apply to AMSC

Use Google Chrome when completing your application at apply.atlm.edu for the best experience.
1
Go to apply.atlm.edu and create an account. Use Chrome as your browser.
2
Complete all sections of the application: Name & Contact, Personal Information, Additional Information, Enrollment Information, Academic History, Tuition Classification, Campus Questions, and Documents.
3
In the Enrollment Information section: set Application Student Type to "Dual Enrolled", choose your Application Major (select "Undecided" if unsure), Application Degree, your intended start term, and whether you've previously attended AMSC.
4
In Academic History: search and select your high school by name (e.g., search "Atlanta Science" to find Atlanta Science Academy). Note your school's CEEB code if you have it.
5
Pay the $20 non-refundable application fee to submit.
6
After submitting, return to apply.atlm.edu, click your submitted application, and check the Documents section to see what still needs to be submitted and what has been received.
Check your application status anytime:
Go to apply.atlm.edu → click your submitted application → view the Documents section. It shows documents still needed vs. those already received as "submitted."

Finding Your Student ID Number

You'll receive your AMSCID# (student ID) once your admissions application is received and processed. To retrieve it at any time: go to atlm.edu → Students → Student Portal → scroll down → Retrieve ID → enter your info and click Search.

Required Documents

All official transcripts must be received and processed before you can be accepted.
Transcripts sent from a student's personal email or fax are considered unofficial and will NOT be used for admissions decisions.

What to Submit

  • Official High School Transcript — showing GPA and credits earned to date
  • SAT or ACT Score
  • Immunization Form
  • Lawful Presence Documents — if seeking in-state tuition (see Lawful Presence section)
  • College Transcripts — if you have any prior college coursework

Mail physical documents to:
Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Office of Admissions
1630 Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30310

How to Request Your High School Transcript

Most high school transcripts can be requested digitally. Here are your options by county/district:

District / ServiceHow to Request
GA Futures Transcriptgafutures.org/resources/student-resources/ → scroll to bottom → "High School Transcript Request" tile → login → "My High School Transcript"
Parchment (most schools)parchment.com
Atlanta Public Schoolsapsga.scriborder.com

Clayton County Schoolsclayton.k12.ga.us
Cobb County Schoolscobbga.scriborder.com
Henry County Schoolstinyurl.com/4vbapsvh
GED Transcriptsged.com/life_after_ged
Tip: Contact your high school's registrar or counselor and let them know you're applying for dual enrollment at AMSC. They can often send the transcript directly. Confirm it was sent and follow up with AMSC Admissions to verify receipt.

GA Futures / ACCEL Funding

Do this before OR after your AMSC application — don't wait. Both applications (AMSC + GA Futures) must be complete, and your parent AND high school counselor must also complete their steps, before any funding hold is lifted.
1
Create an account at gafutures.org/create-account → click Sign In → create account → select Student
2
Log in at gafutures.org → click "My Dual Enrollment Profile" (second item on the left sidebar)
3
Click Apply Now → click "Apply for Dual Enrollment"
4
Click "Add College(s)" and type in Atlanta Metropolitan State College, then add it
5
Critical Click "Resend Parent Acknowledgment Email" at the bottom and enter your parent/guardian's email address. Your parent must complete this before your high school can approve you. If your parent doesn't have email, they can visit gafutures.org/DEparent to complete it.
6
Click "My High School Transcript" in the left sidebar → select Atlanta Metropolitan State College from the list → fill out your info → click Send
Note: It must be at least 30 days since you last sent a transcript to the same school.
7
Physically go to your high school dual enrollment advisor and confirm the transcript notification reached them. They handle sending the actual transcript to AMSC.
8
Use the dashboard ("View My Dashboard") to monitor your application status — it shows active/inactive applications in progress.

What ACCEL / GA Futures Covers

  • Tuition for approved dual enrollment courses
  • Mandatory fees required for enrollment
  • Required textbooks for approved courses
  • Must apply each semester — funding is not automatically renewed
  • The $20 AMSC application fee is not covered
  • Non-mandatory fees (parking, meal plans, etc.)
  • Unapproved courses not in the Dual Enrollment Course Directory
  • Repeated or withdrawn courses — 2 withdrawals = permanent loss of funding
GA Futures Funding Rules — Read This

You cannot receive funding to repeat or retake a course you have already taken.

Withdrawing from a Dual Enrollment course two (2) times makes you permanently ineligible for future GA Futures funding. Think carefully before dropping.

After Acceptance

Check your personal email and spam folder. Your Acceptance Notification will contain your acceptance letter and an invitation to New Student Orientation. Registration happens at orientation.

Post-Acceptance Checklist

1
Receive your Acceptance Notification by email — this contains your acceptance letter and orientation invite
2
Retrieve your AMSCID# (student ID): go to atlm.edu → Students → Student Portal → Retrieve ID → enter your info → Search
3
Required Attend New Student Orientation. At orientation you will be advised and receive your class schedule. You cannot register independently until this is done.
4
Submit your Lawful Presence documents if you have not yet done so (see Lawful Presence section)
5
Set up access to BrightSpace (D2L) — this is AMSC's learning management system where your course materials will live
6

What Happens at Orientation

New Student Orientation at AMSC is where you meet with an advisor and receive your actual class schedule. You do not self-register in a portal like some universities — orientation is a required step before classes begin. Make sure to bring your acceptance letter and any documents they request.

If a Dual Enrollment Student Later Applies for Freshman Admission

Important for future admission:
If you completed Dual Enrollment with fewer than 30 transferable hours, you must meet the 2022 freshman admission requirements including applicable SAT/ACT requirements.

If you completed 30 or more transferable hours through Dual Enrollment, your admissions decision will be based on your college GPA rather than freshman credentials.

Important Deadlines

Apply as early as possible — don't wait on the deadline.

Holds & How to Remove Them

This section will be updated with personal experience. The info below is based only on publicly available sources. Contact Ivan McKee directly if you hit a hold you're unsure how to clear.

Dual Enrollment Funding Hold

The hold clears once all three parties complete their steps in GA Futures:

  • Student: complete the ACCEL application and add Atlanta Metropolitan State College
  • Parent: complete the Parent Acknowledgment email (or at gafutures.org/DEparent)
  • High school counselor: approve your courses in the GA Futures system

Transcript Hold

All official transcripts must be received and processed before you can be accepted. Transcripts sent from a student's personal email or fax are considered unofficial and will not be used.

  • Check your document status at apply.atlm.edu → open your application → Documents section
  • Confirm with your counselor that the transcript was actually sent to AMSC

Lawful Presence Hold

Required for in-state tuition. See the Lawful Presence section for accepted documents and submission info.

Account Balance

You may see a tuition balance in your portal. GA Futures pays it after AMSC invoices them following the semester start. If you've exhausted your funding eligibility, you must pay the balance yourself by the deadline shown in the portal.

Use ratemyprofessors.com → search "Atlanta Metropolitan State College" → look up by name. Register as early as possible — good sections fill fast.

Give Your Schedule to Your Counselor

Once registered, give a copy of your class schedule to your high school counselor. AMSC states this is required — your counselor needs to confirm which courses count toward your diploma.

College Tips & What to Expect

College is completely different from high school.
No one tracks you. No reminders for missed assignments. Academic dishonesty can follow you for life. Read this before your first day.
Daily Habits
  • Log in to BrightSpace (D2L) at atlm.edu → myATLM every day
  • Check your AMSC student email daily — all important communications go there
  • Read the syllabus immediately for every class — it tells you grading, attendance, and due dates
  • Remember your AMSCID# — you'll need it for everything
Key Differences from High School
  • No reminders: Professors don't chase you for assignments. It's entirely your responsibility.
  • Grade components vary: Check the syllabus for how much each item is worth — it's different for every class.
  • Academic dishonesty: Getting caught cheating goes to the Dean of Students and stays on your permanent college record. This can block future opportunities.
  • Office hours: Professors have them — use them. Showing effort goes a long way.
